His Grace Sri Madana Gopāla Dāsa possesses a unique cultural background that often intrigues those he meets. Although he has lived in the United States since his college years and speaks with a predominantly American accent, his Kenyan roots remain a distinctive part of his identity. Born and raised in Kenya, he emigrated to the States in 1993, bringing with him a rich heritage that bridges three continents.
His spiritual trajectory was set at the age of 14 during a formative family trip to Mumbai. Due to an unexpected flight delay, Sri Madana Gopāla and his grandmother were hosted by the airline at a hotel near the Juhu ISKCON temple. It was here that a chance encounter with a book distributor introduced him to the teachings of His Divine Grace Srila A.C. Bhaktivendanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder-ācārya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.
This introduction proved pivotal during a turbulent return flight to Nairobi. Amidst severe weather that left passengers fearing for their lives, Madana Gopāla found himself deeply moved by the composure of his devout grandmother and the profound scientific and spiritual arguments presented in the book Life Comes From Life. This experience ignited a lifelong relationship with Krishna Consciousness, shaping his values and professional philosophy today.
His Grace Madana Gopāla has served for many years as the Education and Temple Management Director at ISKCON of New Jersey and currently serves as the North American Co-Director of ISKCON Communications. As an initiating ācārya and dikṣā Guru within ISKCON, Madana Gopāla provides spiritual leadership and guidance to the community. He resides in Parsippany, New Jersey, with his wife, Srimati Manasi Gangā Devi Dāsi, and son, Madhav, and works as a senior IT professional.

When Madana Gopāla Dāsa returned home to Nairobi, he asked his parents to take him to the ISKCON Nairobi temple. They initially obliged, thinking it was merely a passing curiosity. When he asked to go every week, they attempted to stall so he would be late for the service or suggested he watch his Road Runner cartoons instead! However, he knew Road Runner was no longer for him. Thanks to Srila Prabhupada and the devotees, Madana Gop la had developed a higher taste. Mentors in the Nairobi temple, such as Manasi Ganga Mataji (not to be confused with his wife of the same name), provided the books and tape recordings that propelled a Krishna Conscious journey that continues to this day.
In 2018, Manasi Ganga Mataji expressed a desire to come to America to follow in the footsteps of Srila Prabhupada and asked Madan Gopal if he could help arrange a visa for her and her "grandson," Govinda Prema. He naturally helped them both and toured them around various temples in the Northeast. When Madan Gopal met Govinda Prema Prabhu, he felt as if he were looking in a mirror; the two became as close as brothers. Govinda Prema insisted that he return home to Kenya to visit and preach. Since his family is now in the U.S., Madana Gopāla had not been back since 1996 and felt it was finally time.
Although he could not make the trip before Covid-19 hit, Madana Gopala Dasa started a monthly Bhagavad Gita Zoom class with devotees in Eldoret, Kenya, at Manasi Ganga Mataji’s suggestion. After four years of this sweet seva and sangha, and with Govinda Prema’s expert encouragement and planning, the time for his return finally arrived.
